A tweet from director Marc Webb has revealed Johnny Marr (The Smiths, etc.), Pharrell Williams and Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger are working with composer Hans Zimmer on the score for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
2012 reboot The Amazing Spider-Man pulled in more than $750 million worldwide. The sequel, which finished filming in June, is set to open on May 2, 2014. Webb, star Andrew Garfield and the rest of the surviving principal cast members will return, with some solid additions coming in the form of Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn and Jamie Foxx playing the new villain, Electro. Webb’s debut feature, (500) Days of Summer, showed off his love for The Smiths, and this collaboration gives me hope The Amazing Spider Man 2 will be more than just another generic superhero sequel. I’m probably reading too far into things, but I hope this also suggests Columbia Pictures offered Webb more creative control after he was originally apprehensive about returning for the sequel. We’ll see. You can check out the photo and tweet after the jump.
